Spahn's Big Horn Mountain
The Premier Bed & Breakfast
of the Bighorn Mountains Since 1986

|
Spahn's Big Horn Mountain
Bed & Breakfast is a towering log home high on the mountainside in the pines
overlooking Sheridan Valley. Our Bighorn Mountain country is usually passed over hurriedly
by first-time tourists- an unexpected looming mountain barrier on the way to Yellowstone -
but for those special folks who don't like crowds, condos, and curio shops this has always
been a special place. Mountains to explore, Indian wars sites to discover, western
lifestyle you thought was gone forever. . . . . and where else can you see one hundred
miles from the window! |

Accommodations:
Our decor is traditional western style-rustic but not primitive. All rooms
have queen size beds and all are private bath, and a gracious mountain breakfast is
included, hosted by Bobbie and me. You'll have a great time meeting new friends from all
over the world.
Spruce Room: A lofty dormer room high in the tree tops
overlooking the Sheridan Valley and far beyond into Montana. Antique oak furniture with
queen bed and adjacent private bath with stall shower and decorative old-fashioned claw
foot tub. Adjacent loft, open to the great room two stories below. Accommodates up to
three teens or older children.
Aspen Room: Romantic vaulted ceiling bedroom with a sunny dormer window seat.
Queen size Victorian Angel bed with old-fashioned country quilts and ruffled curtains.
Private shower bath. View through tree tops overlooking Little Goose Canyon.
Ponderosa Room: Our premium room with cozy western furniture set off by the
warmth of hand-peeled logs and country curtains. Queen bed, twin bed, outside balcony, one

The Great Room
You might like to know more about the experiences that our guests have
here.
SPAHN'S is a traditional
mountain lodge where guests are personally entertained in the relaxed style of an earlier
time. We want our guests to feel like part of the family and come away with a personal
attachment to the Bighorn Mountains. Guests socialize and compare their vacations and
their lives with each other and the hosts each morning at breakfast and at the end of the
day on the deck or in the great room of the lodge. Our guests are folks who prefer to
explore and discover on their own, and as hosts Ron and Bobbie listen to plans and
interests and make suggestions to facilitate those desires.

Activities
Activities focus on the Bighorn mountains for hiking, fishing, and auto touring; on the
Indian Wars history at the sites of the Custer's Last Stand, the Bozeman Trail, the Battle
of the Rosebud; and on the local culture at the Trail End, Kings and Bradford Brinton
ranch museums. Shopping Sheridan's 1910 main street is always an attraction, as are
rodeos, polo matches, Indian powwows, and even stock car races. For those who wish to
participate in an activity there is championship golf, horseback riding at several nearby
outfitters, mountain biking, rock climbing and caving, and several good swimming holes
that the tourists don't know about.
A week in the mountains wouldn't be complete without an evening or two in town to see the
"bright lights" with dinner at a variety of ethnic and gourmet dining
restaurants in Bighorn, Story, and Sheridan.
While our main purpose as hosts is to facilitate exploration on your own, there are some
places that are just too remote or hard to find, and besides, some folks prefer to have a
"native guide". So while we'll be telling all we can about where to explore on
your own, on Wednesdays and Saturdays (sometimes other days are possible) we load up the
Suburban and put together a party to reduce costs and have some fun.
There are several exciting possibilities, but the most popular is my Indian wars trip - a
trip that explores the history of the region that was the site of the Great Sioux War,
which culminated with Custer's Last Stand in June 1876. In addition to the history sites
we see Indian cliff writings, the remains of a recent forest fire, wildlife from eagles to
bears (sometimes), giant coal mines, and two Indian reservations.

Monday and Thursday evenings we have our "Moose Safari". It's a full course
steak dinner in our dining room or on the deck, followed by an evening four-wheel-drive
trip up the mountain to see wildlife. Moose are always the big attraction, but we'll
probably see countless deer and perhaps some of the elusive Bighorn elk herd. You'll have
a delightful evening with our other guests, and the ride down the mountain at twilight is
awesome.
A forest fire burned across our property last August, destroying our guest cabins.
Miraculously our house and the trees around it were spared. By September meadows of green
grass had reappeared, and the views were even more expansive than before. There will be
much to show you by the time of your visit.
Anyway, there are lots of exciting new experiences for you here. Whether you tour on your
own or go on a trip with us, we'll make sure you find it all. Thanks again for helping us
out. Come to Wyoming sometime! Ron and Bobbie Spahn
